PORTRAITS AND DOUBLE PORTRAITS
My double portrait series focuses on capturing the refined quality which becomes evident through the subjects’ sense of being in each other’s presence. This approach hints towards a shared intimacy and natural coexistence that becomes characteristic of a relationship. Either next to each other or at opposite ends, I aim to insinuate one’s individual identity and whether we are tied to that of another. The viewer would be uncertain whether they are relatives, friends or lovers, but the bond or uneasiness between them, formalised by their positioning and gaze, is difficult to overlook.
I strive not to indicate much about the subjects’ personalities or who they are. Yet, I let the viewer infer the affection, hatred or fear that stems from each one of them. This remains deeply rooted in the connection that one can witness. The pieces in this series are narratives revealing the joy of relationships, as well as the struggles and tragedy that comes with it.
